| | “Abba” is a Hebrew word meaning “father” or “peace.” Grupo ABBA Capoeira was started in 1999 by Mestre Robson De Jesus in Miami, Florida. Mestre Robson wanted to create a space where he could use his passion for Capoeira to cross racial boundaries, uniting children, adolescents, and adults of all races to learn, respect, play, and love Capoeira. Abba students include men, women, and children from the ages of 4 to 40. We have new students every week and so include students of all levels, from the most beginners to the most advanced. Our students are also represented by individuals and families from many different ethnicities and cultures.  ABBA Capoeira is not currently affiliated with any other schools; however, we do interact with various groups and schools from Georgia and Florida. Our uniform consists of white pants, or “abadás” and black tops. As with other martial arts, we follow a colored belt system, where the belts are called cords, or “cordas.” Our cord system works like this: |
